Teko Teko

A Teko Teko is a traditional guardian figure of New Zealand. In 2003 I met 3 Maori master carvers. This is the result. With a smile I was awarded the title "Best German Maori carver".
It is made of ancient kauri from New Zealand, which lies underground on the northern island of NZ. This wood is up to 50000 years old.
The eyes are made of paua, a kind of abalone shell.

material: Ancient kauri
